The Prairie JOY electric vehicle, released in 1997, was the first lithium-ion battery powered car. Followed by the PIVO in 2005 – the first vehicle with a compact, laminated lithium-ion battery. We launched the all-electric Nissan LEAF – in 2011. The Nissan LEAF represents a truly historic moment in our own and the automotive industry history – but it’s just the latest chapter for us in a book that spans decades of conceptual and technical work.
